NASRO is a non-profit business association dedicated to representing the needs of people and organizations for a more socially equitable society. We have been working toward this goal for over 30 years. We are an advocacy organization as well as a service organization. We are most well known for our work as an advocate for affordable universal health care and as a provider of group health insurance.
We represent our clients’ interests, not the interests of insurance companies. We prepare carefully thought-out recommendations of specific health plans based on the particular needs of the employer seeking health insurance. We look for the least expensive plans that offer the particular benefits needed by the employees. We assist with interpreting the benefits of the plans. We also help with administrative issues such as completing the enrollment process smoothly and assisting with any problems that may come up after enrollment, such as payment of claims and billing issues.
NASRO was founded in 1991 by health care consumer advocate, Robert Gaw, to bring health insurance price and benefit stability to businesses and other organizations such as non-profits. NASRO promotes more equal and better quality treatment of all patients by medical provider organizations.
Since 1982, Mr Gaw has been working in health care management and administration for community based non-profit HMOs such as MD-IPA Health Plan; Keystone Health Plan West, a Blue Cross and Blue Shield HMO; Consumers United Insurance Company, a health insurance company focused on military families; and Labor/Management Trust Funds. Mr. Gaw grew up in Walpole, Massachusetts and Washington DC, went to undergraduate school and graduate school at The Catholic University in Washington DC. He worked in the 1970’s as a writer focusing on the needs of low wage workers in the clothing industry in Massachusetts, the restaurant industry in Washington DC and the textile industry in the American South. He worked in health care administration and consulting at Robert Gaw Associates from 1991 to 1994, then went on to form NASRO.
