News from Tufts Health Plan - Winter 2008

All plans will have a renewal effective date of April1, 2008. However, the open enrollment periodoccurs on April1, May 1, and June 1. During open enrollment employees not currently on a plan can join, and employees can add qualified dependents. Groups have the ability to change the plans they offer. Please note that open enrollment is the only time groups can upgrade to a plan with richer benefits.
Effective April 1, 2008, the Advantage HMO 2000 option is available with prescription drug coverage.
According to the MassachusettsHealth Care Reform Act, all adult residents age 18 or older are required to have health insurance coverage that qualifies as " creditable coverage" by January 1, 2009. Creditable coverage includes having prescription drug coverage. The Open enrollment period of 2008 is likely the only time that groups will have the opportunity to switch to a plan that includes prescription drug coverage.
The Tufts Health Plan has expanded its extended service area to include Rensslaer and Colombia counties in New York state. The extended service area will continue to include some counties in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
